Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ Sunscreen (review)

Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+

An ultra light sunscreen formula for everyday use.
  • Helps to fight up to 90% of skin aging, including lines and wrinkles and uneven texture and tone.
  • Delivers outstanding efficacy against UVA & UVB rays on the skin’s surface.
  • Oil-free, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic
  • Dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin
I don't have to say much about this very amazing, must-have product when it comes to skincare.
Sunscreens are one of those essential skincare products that should be part of one's daily routine irrespective of season, place and skintone.  The benefits of sunscreens are endless and the internet is loaded with all the amazing information one needs to know.

Color: White

Texture and Consistency: Light weight, non-sticky, non-greasy, not to thick nor too goopy liquid.

Scent/Fragrance: I love the fact that this one does not smells like typical sunscreen. It smells pretty pleasant.

Application: This is a light weight sunscreen. It spreads easily and gets absorbed pretty quickly. I apply it 'liberally' on my lightly moisturized skin 30 minutes before going out in the sun. I also apply it under makeup and absolutely had no issue with makeup sliding off. It is recommended to shake the bottle well before application.

Feel on Skin: The sunscreen sets almost instantly. It does not feel greasy or sticky like other sunscreens. There is no chalky, ashy white cast on the face. Does not make the face shiny nor clogs pores. No breakouts! It does not makes my eyes itchy or watery. No burning sensation either.

Effect on Skin: With liberal and constant use, I assume it is doing its job of skin protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Hopefully in future I won't get crow's feet and wrinkles.

Packaging: Fuss free, plastic bottle with flip top cap. No pump.

Longevity: I reapply after 80 minutes if I stay that long in sun. Usually the pool.

Verdict: Amazing product! My absolute favorite sunscreen is SHISEIDO Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion+ Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ For Face/Body and I still enjoying using that one, but this Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ Sunscreen  is my current favorite. I find Shiseido one to be tad more drying and turning more white on me. It makes me look more ashy. But I still love it. With only good things to say about this sunscreen, I find this to be 'staple' in my skincare routine. A little on pricey side but worth every penny in my opinion. Do ask for a tiny sample when you are at the Kiehl's store next time and give it a try!

The product is available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's

NARS Illuminator HOT SAND (Review, Photos, Swatches)

NARS Illuminator HOT SAND

A multi-functional face product that gives skin a refreshed luminosity.

This light-reflecting liquid glides on to refresh and enhance the complexion, creating a shimmering incandescence. Wear it alone, or pair it with makeup to transform your skin from ordinary to extraordinary.

The illuminator can be applied all over the face, mixed with foundation, or used as a highlighter, over or under makeup.

Apply it to face, neck, shoulders, or décolleté.

Color:  Pearlized Warm Peachy Champagne, with light frosted sheen and gold undertones. Medium, Neutral toned. Not chunky or glittery.

Texture and Consistency: Thin but not watery, non-sticky

Scent: None detected

Application: This can be applied in two ways. On its own on as a highlighter on cheek bones, bridge of the nose or along the high planes of the face. This can also be mixed with any foundation for getting that lovely, glowing skin with luminous finish. I apply it with fingers using patting motion. Over buffing leads to the product getting 'lost' and losing its high shine quality. I also use it with a duo fiber brush like MAC 188, but prefer my fingers. This being a liquid product is best to use with other liquid or gel products, like a gel or cream blush. If needed to wear it along with powder products, it is best to apply this highlighter first and then the other powder products.

Feel on Skin: This is fairly thin and light weight. A little goes a long way and this spreads easily, without being sticky or heavy.

Effect on Skin: The skin looks perfectly awesome! The product is not over the top shimmery and gives the skin that dewy, luminous, 'lit from within' glow. It did not emphasize any pores nor did look unnatural on me.

Longevity: Lasted for good 6 hours before it started to fade and get patchy.

Packaging: A soft squeeze, transparent tube, with a flip top cap.

NARS Illuminator HOT SAND (swatch)

Verdict: A wonderful product from NARS. This color would work very well on almost all skint ones and skin types. The subtle sheen will add a lovely warm and healthy glow on the skin.
The product reminds me of Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer, though the texture is slightly different and so are the shimmer levels. I will do a comparison post soon.

This is available at Nordstrom, NARS online, Bloomingdales and Barneys New York

I knew I wanted this CHANEL DENTELLE PRÉCIEUSE ILLUMINATING FACE POWDER the moment previews started floating in the beauty blogging world on the internet. I did go over board with clicking pictures, but then who wouldn't?

The Chanel Dentelle Precieuse Illuminating Powder is a Nordstrom Anniversary Beauty Exclusive and after drooling over the beautiful photos and swatches, I finally got a chance to visit a Nordstrom Yesterday. (Yep, life has been too busy, but then again who is free these days!). I was very sure, I didn't want to buy a $80 product by just looking at the pictures. In the past, I have already been sucked by Chanel's beautiful designs and 'exclusive' tags!

The product comes in a velvet pouch with two sections. One holds a tiny brush, which actually is pretty handy, though I would use something else to apply this. There is a mirror too.

With stunning, intricate lace design on the powder, the product itself is a masterpiece! The color is a beautiful, complex mix of Beige,Coppery bronze and Peachy Pink. It is very difficult to describe the color and depending on what an individual's eye can see, I have read multiple description of the same powder. Some call it a mix of rose and Champagne while others see it a golden beige. To my eyes, it sure has coppery bronze and beige shades. The powder definitely has warm undertones and is very finely milled.

The SA dusted it on my face with a big Chanel brush and all I could see was wonderful glow and luminosity on my face, especially the cheek bones and high points where she meticulously placed it. I didn't notice any shimmers nor sparkly glitter. It is a very very finely milled powder, that is not too powder or dusty. It is not frosty. It illuminates and brightens the face and gives it a very natural sheen and glow, without accentuating the pores or emphasizing the flaws. Depending on the brush used (a very dense brush), this can appear a bit metallic too.

This powder can be dusted all over the face or can be layered over any blush to give a more beautiful, dimensional effect. The mix of coppery bronze and pink hues, gives a light color to the product, so it is not stark white or frosty. The color is not over powering the sheen by any means and the powder manages to give that "ethereal glow" we all always want.

It lasted for good 6 hours on me and did  not make me oily at all. The SA also applied it on my eye lids and I must admit, it looked wonderful! The makeup artist at Sephora too asked me, what I was wearing. (I know, they always compliment, but yeah, whatever!)

I tried taking pictures and comparing it with the very initial products that came to my mind. I tried swatching them and taking pictures as well, but some how I couldn't manage to capture the sheen of the product. I didn't had the heart to ruin that lovely Pattern on the product. The lace pattern will eventually fade of after couple of uses, but using it with brush will make the lace pattern visible for long over to swatching it with fingers.

I will do a comparison post next week.

Now the cost factor and the most asked question to self. Do I need this? Is it a must have?

It is pretty steep as far as price is concerned. But then most of these 'high-end' designer beauty products are. Be is Chantecaille Rose Petals (Les Petales de Rose) Illuminating Face Powder or Clé de Peau Beauté
Luminizing Face Enhancer. So if choice is to be made, it has to be made quick! This is Limited Edition and Nordstrom Exclusive.

Do I Need this: I don't think so. If you have found the product that manages to give you the "ethereal glow" and "lit from within glow", it is absolutely fine to skip it. Also, the effect can be achieved with other product as well. I am sure there are other brands that keep coming with illuminating powders and highlighters all the time. I do not follow every single brand. If you are a collector, this is something you will regret if you miss now.

The Beauty Look Book, Temptalia, Color Me Loud, Ommorphia Beauty Bar have wonderful comparisons and swatches, which I am sure you must have read and seen by now.

Have you purchased this? If not purchase, tried it? What do you think? Any thoughts in general for these powders that create the crazy hype and are limited edition?

PETER THOMAS ROTH Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask (Review)

I am in LOVE with this product. This is one mask I cannot stop raving about. It gave me instant, visible results and the results were Awesome!

Camu Camu Power C x 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask

An intensive nighttime treatment that not only brightens but moisturizes skin while you sleep.

Treat while you sleep - wake up with the appearance of brighter, more moisturized skin. This must-have Sleeping Mask contains camu camu berry, a potent superfruit that has 30 times the vitamin C of an orange and powerful absorption properties.

Color: Pale Orange

Texture & Consistency: Soft, Smooth, creamy, light weight and slightly thick lotion.

Scent: Orange'y' smell. Not very fresh, but not as bitter as the serum. They all have same base notes and scents flow in harmony. I don't find it annoying.

Usage: I used it at night after applying my Peter Roth Brightening Serum (review). Used this 5 days a week for the first week and then three to four times a week.

Application: I applied a thin layer with my fingers over the serum. This is a light weight and not a dense cream, so it spread easily. Just one big pump of product was enough to cover the whole face and slightly below the chin and neck.

Feel on Skin: On application, the mask did spread easily, but it was not absorbed by the skin nor did it sink in the skin. It just 'sat' on the skin forming a smooth film. It felt sticky and tacky initially and took about 15-20 minutes for the product to completely set and dry to a non transferable state. There was no stretchy or dry feeling on skin. No tingling, no itching, no reaction! So cool!

Effect on Skin: This is the best part. I had the most bright, soft, luminous face the following day. After using it for the first 5 days, my skintone was very even. My face already has some darkness around the chin and mouth area and over exposure to sun worsens it. This product just lightened the over aggravated pigmentation and gave a decent brightened, even skintone. The texture of my skin was lovely and I wish I could share before and after pictures.

Packaging: It has a very hygienic packaging. Comes in a orange, plastic container with a pump like mechanism but there is no actual pump! I don't know what exactly is this kind of packaging called. It dispenses enough product for one use, with one pump.

Verdict: I am a fan of this mask. I use tons of products all the time and review them here on Dazzle 'n' Sparkle. It is very difficult to please me with a product and the more I use new products, pickier I get with them. This PETER THOMAS ROTH Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask performs pretty well and fulfills most of the claims it makes. A winner in my book.

Have you tried PETER THOMAS ROTH Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask or any other mask from this brand. Impressed with the performance of this one, I picked PETER THOMAS ROTH Skinstant Mask Magic. The value kit contains three masks. Each weighing 1.7 oz.
Cucumber Gel Mask , Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Gel Mask , Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. Very excited to try these.

Beauty Buys - Too Faced, Fresh, Kiehl's, Nars, Josie Maran

A bunch of products that I picked in past few weeks. I had been to Miami for little spring vacation. Obviously couldn't resist visiting and picking goodies from Sephora. It was HUGE!!! I loved the way they had Bronzers, Self tanners and Sunscreens on display just at the front.

Bonjour Soleil Limited Edition Summer Bronzing Wardrobe:
OMG!!! This looked so so stunning at the display! I must admit that I got sucked into the sleek packaging, beautiful tanned legs and Miami Mood! Not to mention the stunning colors!!  I am not a bronzer person and I love whatever I have in my little bronzer collection. Too Faced metal packaging is very pretty and I couldn't resist buying!

Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée:
These tiny glass jars!! I hate those bins that hold mini and travel size products at the check out. Most of these are below $20 and before you know you have 3-4 products added in the basket. I have tried MAC Just a Pinch Gel Blush and I love it. These too are really good, because I have already used them. More details on these and the swatches later.

Peony Brightening Night Treatment Mask:
I have been obsessed with masks lately, especially the overnight kinds. The FRESH Peony Brightening Night Treatment Mask was pretty new in the market when I picked it a couple of weeks ago. I have used it just two times and so far so good. Will use it a few more times before I pass a verdict on it.

Before starting my trip, I had picked a NARS Illuminator in the color HOT SAND from Nordstrom. I love the way this shade looks on my tanned skin (now).

Also grabbed a Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ from the Kiehl's Friends and Family Sale. I love my tried and trusted SHISEIDO Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion+ Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ For Face/Body, but I had tried a sample of Kiehl's one in the past and I really wanted to buy a full size one.
(Note to companies: Be generous with samples!!)

There are a couple of other stuff that I picked, but I just need to photograph them. So for now everything has been tried and I am glad none of these were disappointing. Reviews and swatches to come soon.

PETER THOMAS ROTH Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer (Review)

I used the PETER THOMAS ROTH Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer in conjugation with the Peter Thomas Roth Camu Camu Brightening Serum (review). I never used it on its own on my bare skin to actually tell the results or the performance of this product alone.

PETER THOMAS ROTH Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer

A deeply nourishing moisturizer that supports natural collagen while brightening, smoothing, firming, revitalizing, and improving the appearance of uneven skintone.

The amazonian Camu Camu berry has 30 times the vitamin C of an orange. This highly concentrated vitamin C has superior absorption properties due to its low molecular weight allowing it to better penetrate the skin, support natural collagen production, brighten, smooth, firm, and improve the appearance of uneven skintone along with fine lines and wrinkles. Powerful antioxidant Camu Camu with vitamins A, D, and E also helps revitalize the look of skin while helping to fight free radical attack.

Formulated WITHOUT:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates

Color: Pale Orange/Peach

Texture and Consistency: Smooth, Soft, neither to thick nor too runny, creamy lotion.

Scent: Pretty similar to the Serum, bitter and orange citrus'y'. I personally didn't dislike this scent completely, but its not the most pleasant one.

Usage: I used it at night along with the Camu Camu Brightening Serum. I used it for a little over four weeks till I ran out of the product.

Application: One or two pumps were more than enough to cover my whole face and neck. It spread easily and was absorbed, but not completely. Part of it just 'sat' on the surface of the skin.

Feel on Skin: This moisturizer is not the one with most moisturizing qualities, but it did provide relief from the stretchy feel of the serum. On initial application, it feels little tacky and sticky, but not silicone slippery. The lotion sets after few minutes, making it more comfortable on face.

Effect on Skin: The serum-moisturizer combination gave decent results in brightening of the facial skin and also giving it a little even texture and tone, but the results were not as awesome as I had hoped to.

Packaging: A very fancy, bulky, bright orange packaging. It is hygienic, because you just have to press the top portion and the moisturizer just pops out. There is no way to see if there is any left towards the end. Once the product stops coming, it is to be assumed that the bottle or jar is empty. Now, I am someone who would love to use every single drop of these products, simply because they are expensive. I would prefer if I could open this jar/bottle and scrape off every last bit (sorry, I hate wasting.. :))

Verdict: It is a good product, but if I have to skip something from this Camu Camu line, I would skip the moisturizer. I would buy the serum and the sleeping mask, which I am dying to review because I got excellent results using the serum-mask combination. The role of moisturizer can be performed by any other too, so you can choose any other favorite moisturizer to go over the serum. I would stick to the same fragrance family though (orange/citrus) if I choose another moisturizer.

Have you tried this line (Camu Camu Power) of product from Peter Thomas Roth?

July 8, 2014

Totally new to this line of skincare, I decided to try the brand with this kit. As always, I find value kits to be a great way to try new products.

Many times multiple products work more effectively when used in synergy with other stuff from their own brand. For instance a certain brand serum would deliver better results when used along with the moisturizers, day cream or night cream etc from its own brand. This is where "value kits" play a major role.

I may be new to Peter Thomas Roth brand, but I am certainly not new to serums or products that contain vitamin C as their main ingredient. In the past I had tried one from The Body Shop and I must say, it was pathetic and highly disappointing. I didn't had much hopes with the whole Camu Camu Power thing, but the whole 'Brightening' thing caught me in its web!

The Camu Camu berry provides 30 times more vitamin C per ounce than an average orange. This highly concentrated vitamin C has superior absorption properties due to its low molecular weight allowing it to better penetrate the skin, help improve collagen production, brighten, smooth, firm, and improve the appearance of uneven skintone, fine lines, and wrinkles. Powerful antioxidant Camu Camu extract with vitamins A, D, and E also help revitalize the look of skin while helping to fight free radical attack.

Color: Orange

Texture and Consistency: Thin, Watery

Scent: Bitter and Citrus'y'. Something like when an orange goes bitter.

Usage: I used it only once a day in conjugation with PETER THOMAS ROTH Camu Camu Power
C X 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer (review). I used this for 4 weeks with the moisturizer and then for another 3 weeks with the Brightening mask.

Application:  I used 2 pumps to spread it all over my face and neck. This being thin and watery spreads very easily.

Feel on Skin: This is a very watery serum. On application, it feels just like water but within seconds it becomes tacky and sticky. Once dry (about 2 minutes), it sets and the skin feels tight and taught. It feels like a thin film is formed on the skin. The product is not a moisturizing serum, so it is must to follow it with moisturizer of your choice. I used the PETER THOMAS ROTH Camu Camu Power C X 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer.

Effect on Skin: I never used this alone, all by itself to actually tell if this worked 100% on its own. I always used it in conjugation with other Peter Thomas Roth Products. PETER THOMAS ROTH Camu Camu Power C X 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer and later along with PETER THOMAS ROTH Camu Camu Power C x 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask (this is an incredible product!)

I don't have any wrinkles as of now and I just have fine lines around my eyes, that are only visible when I apply concealer. (I so hate concealers under the eyes, but I am still hunting for that best one) OK, back to product reviewing. I didn't notice much difference in those areas (wrinkles and fine lines). 'Brightening of skin' and improving 'Uneven Skintone' were two claims I was looking forward to. This did help in brightening the skin and making it appear more even and natural, but if I look at individual dark areas on my face like the chin and forehead, I didn't see much of a difference. None of these spots or areas were lightened. Also, the results were slow.

I must add one thing here. When I used this serum with the PETER THOMAS ROTH Camu Camu Power C x 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask, the results were amazing and unbelievable! I will review this product once I have reviewed the PETER THOMAS ROTH Camu Camu Power C X 30™ Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer. We go in sequence here.

Packaging: The packaging is bulky, orange and fancy. It is not heavy though. There is a hygienic pump, that dispenses right amount of product. There is no way to find out if the product is finished as nothing is visible.

Verdict: This is an OK product on its own. It didn't break me out nor dried out my skin. Also, I find that it gave much better results when I used it under the Brightening mask. In fact, I am in love with that mask. It is seriously awesome! I would say that the serum-mask combo is life saver for dull, patchy skin.

Have you tried this serum? or anything from the Peter Thomas Roth line of skin care products?
