KATE SOMERVILLE - ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

A dual-action exfoliation method that seemingly smooths away years in as little as two minutes.

Treat yourself to this at-home facial for fantastic, instant results. This signature formula works both physically and enzymatically to deliver safe, dramatic results in one application. It effectively combats acne and blackheads, reduces discoloration, and polishes skin for a smooth complexion. This expert formula harnesses the power of fruit enzymes to clarify skin by removing dead cells and eliminating bacteria. It is ideal for all skin types, except sensitive skin. Welcome to healthy skin, a healthy glow, and a healthy you.

I had heard so so much about this KATE SOMERVILLE -  ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment and this was one product I was most excited about when I picked this set. In the past, I have not had much luck with Kate Somerville Products. I have tried Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum, Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum and KATE SOMERVILLE Complexion Correction™ Daily Discoloration Perfector. Unfortunately none of these worked as I was hoping for me and failed to impress me.

The ExfoliKate though not super awesome, still performed better than others.

Color: Mossy green

Texture and Consistency: Very light, Non- sticky, creamy and slightly grainy

Scent: Faint Scent of herbs and mint.

Application: I apply this as directed. On a clean, wet/moist face not like face splashed with lot of water dripping down. Then scrub it gently using my finger tips for around 30- 45 seconds (avoiding the eye area). It is difficult to over do simply because, slight burning sensation starts to appear after 30-45 seconds. I leave the scrub like mask for 2-3 minutes and then wash it off with water.

Feel on the Skin: This is a physical as well as chemical exfoliating treatment. Meaning, there are tiny granulated scrubby particles that actually do the job of exfoliation when scrubbed for few seconds initially. Then there are certain enzymes that do their magic by chemically exfoliating the dead skin gently when left on the skin as mask.
Initially there is mild tingling, burning sensation. The burning sensation is more like warm flush on the face. When I used this product for the first time, the tingling and burning was very harsh for me. I wanted to remove it off completely ASAP. But as I used the treatment more often, I found the tingling more bearable and borderline nice.

Effect on Skin: The skin on face felt clean, scrubbed and fresh. It also appeared bright, but the brightness didn't last for long. The product didn't break me out nor I had any bad reaction to any ingredient in it. It didn't leave my already dry skin dry, but the after effect was not moisturizing either. I had to apply my serum after this. There was mild stretchy feeling or tightness of the skin.
I could achieve most of the claims made by the company for this product, but all those effects were very short lived.

Packaging: This comes in a soft squeeze tube, with a flip top cap. Mine is a mini version. There is a cute smiley face that winks on the cap. (not a necessary information). Very hygienic and easy to travel with.

Verdict: It is a good product. I think a little over priced and over hyped though. It is not a miracle product and I mentioned above in the effects, I did manage to achieve almost all the claims made by the company. but for a very short period of time. This is a good product for that "instant mini facial" that will give a good clean face for the evening or give life to tired, dull face during travel.

The product is safe for all skin types, except sensitive skin. There are multiple versions of the exfoliating treatment. We have KATE SOMERVILLE ExfoliKate® Gentle Exfoliating Treatment for Sensitive skin, KATE SOMERVILLE ExfoliKate Acne Clearing Exfoliating Treatment for Acne Prone Skin and then we have KATE SOMERVILLE ExfoliKate® Body Intensive Exfoliating Treatment which is especially for the Body. Many to choose from. I have not tried any other versions though.

Currently, I am trying a few more exfoliators, and later will decide whether this would be a permanent item in my skin care routine. So far, I am liking it but it has not reached Holy Grail status for me (as of now).

Have you tired this one? Any favorite Exfoliators you would recommend?

Caudalie - Beauty Elixir (Review)

Caudalie - Beauty Elixir

The beauty world calls it a Miraculous Product! No, not a new product in market, just a new one for me to review. I got one of these last year and I used it over the summer when I went for my very long 10 week Vacation to my home country. I loved how it worked in the hot, humid weather back then. I picked one for my Florida vacation this year too.

Part-toner, part-serum mist of essential oils and plant active ingredients.

Smooths the skin, tightens the pores, and provides an instant burst of radiance, as it stimulates microcirculation.

Formulated WITHOUT: - Parabens - Sulfates - Synthetic Fragrances - Synthetic Dyes - Petro-Chemicals - Phthalates - GMOs - Triclosan

Color: Colorless

Texture: Like Water

Scent: Herbal, fresh, minty and fragrant. I like it. It is pleasant.

Usage: Anytime, Anywhere when I feel my face needs little boost of energy, freshness and hydration.

Application: I keep the bottle 6-8 inches away from my face, close my eyes and use two to three spritz all over the face. The mist from the nozzle is very fine.

Feel on Skin: The skin feels cool and there is no tingling sensation. Its like spritzing peppermint water. It is little dewy, but in a good way. It is not shiny, oily or sticky. It did not ruin the makeup nor did it increase the longevity of the same either. There was no drying of skin. It is subtle, didn't make me itchy or break me out.

Packaging: A heavy glass spray bottle. Just as simple. Easy to travel with.

Verdict: It is a glorified water with fancy essential oils. The product reminds me of toners. Good toners that don't dry. I find the product more effective and fun to use when it is cold. The whole purpose of the product, irrespective of whatever claims they make is to refresh and re-hydrate. I keep this in fridge over night and then carry it in my beach bag or to the pool.

Price: The product is pricey for what it does. The same feel good factor for skin can be achieved by spritzing cold water filled in a travel spray bottle. I

I have a couple of DIY recipes for refreshing toners or Beauty mist or whatever fancy name you want to give them and I find them equally effective and fun to use, especially when in pool or beach. If you are someone who travels a lot (especially flights), I would say Caudalie Beauty Elixir is a good product to keep in bag to just re-hydrate the skin that becomes very dry and dull during long flights. It is convenient to carry.

Not a must have, but a fancy good product to have. It comes in this wonderful Caudalie Favorites Kit and is a great way to try many products at a very decent cost.

Beauty Buys: Fresh, Marc Jacobs, Caudalie, MUFE

This is an old haul, probably 8 weeks old. My brother and his family was visiting us and we had an early summer vacation. We went to Miami, Key West, Key Largo, Orlando, Tampa, New York, Washington DC and Niagara Falls. Also did tours around Chicago and Wisconsin. All of this in short span of 4 weeks. It was chaotic and hectic, but we enjoyed a lott!! Blogging obviously took a back seat and I didn't fret much. Now, that they went back home, I can blog more often. There are tons of things to share and talk about.

I will start with Beauty Buys. This is an old one. I did pick some other awesome stuff in Miami and New York, but yet to photograph them.

'BEAUTY BUYS' is just another term coined for the infamous 'HAUL'. Its the list of things I buy, try and the ones you will hear me 'yak', 'blab', 'review' about in next few posts!!! Call this a 'Preview'..

Firstly, I picked this wonderful FRESH Black Tea Age-Delay Skincare Set I have already tried the Fresh Soy cleanser and honestly, didn't like much. Now, that this product appears in almost all of the fresh value kits these days, I have 3 tubes lying in my bathroom. I should give this a try once again. The Black Tea Instant perfecting Mask and the Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate were the only products I was excited about. This Eye Cream is Full Size I believe. I have already used the mask and liked it so far. Will review these products once I have tested them enough.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Instant Nail Polish Remover: Picked this one only for convenience. Life saver I must say. Makes removing nail polish super easy and easier to travel with. Cannot be used for toe nails though.

FIRST AID BEAUTY: A brand that I discovered recently and I must say none of their products have disappointed. I have tried few of these. FIRST AID BEAUTY Facial Radiance Polish was my choice of 100 point perk that Sephora offers. I wanted to try this product and the size was generous.

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Blush was my another pick. I love cream blushes. They look more natural and can be applied with fingers too. There were so many colors to choose from and I chose #220 Pink Sand. I have used this one too and it is a lovely formula

FORMULA X New Neutrals: I picked two more shades. Very natural nudes. I like these colors in summer. The look very pretty with the tan and I tan in Golden Honey color. The formula of the polish is good, but varies from color to color. Also the brush of one of my polish is really bad and is all over the place, but the colors are wonderful!

CAUDALIE had this duo set on Sale. The Caudalie Divine Oil and Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream, both in generous size. I have already reviewed the Hand and Nail Cream here and it is my very favorite of all hand creams that I have tried so far. The Caudalie Divine Oil is something new for me. I have yet to try it, but one whiff of the oil and I totally disliked the scent. Maybe once I use it a couple of times, I might start liking it. Will review the texture and effect of the product in near future.

MARC JACOBS BEAUTYEnamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer: Who can resist this shade! Petra is a stunning shade of Bronze with shimmer. This was on my list since very long time. I was just waiting for some sale. A lovely shade!!

The freebies that came along with the Beauty Buys were some Makeup bags and Deluxe Samples. So far, I have tried many of these and are pretty much ready to review. I just need to write the reviews and upload.

Any experience with any of the above products?

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover

Maintaining cuticles have been one of the most painful and difficult task for me. The thing is I cannot get a professional pedicure or manicure done. Reason being, I just hate it when someone else touches my nails. I mean hate as in not hate, but I get annoyed. You know that feeling when you hear nails on chalkboard... something like that..

I was super excited about this product. I guess the word 'Instant' caught me and my expectations just soared high with the product. I would not say it didn't work at all, but it didn't perform as I had expected or rather 'over-expected'.

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover

Cuts manicure time in half. Revolutionary gel formula melts away and breaks down excess cuticles. With regular use, helps prevent cuticle problems before they start. Tip: Instant Cuticle Remover can also be used on calluses. Salon Tested. Dermatologist Tested. Special Ingredients: Aloe, Chamomile and Green Tea help soften hard-to-remove, stubborn cuticles.

Color: Clear

Texture and Consistency: Light, gel like consistency

Scent: None detected.

Application: Apply a drop on each cuticle, lightly massage it and leave it for 15 seconds. Then push the cuticles back and wash off the excess with warm water.

Feel and Effect on nails and cuticles: I followed the instructions exactly as it said on the box. There was no stinging or stickiness. The nails as well as the cuticles felt comfortable. I did notice that some cuticles required a little more standing time than the recommended 15 seconds, but doing so dried out the product on the nails. In such cases, I saturated the cuticle with more than a drop of product.
It softened the cuticles and made it easy to push them back. My trusted and super amazing Tweezerman Pushy Cuticle Pusher did the job well. An orange stick can do the same too.

Packaging: A soft plastic bottle, with a nozzle. The bottle is squeezable.

Verdict: This is an affordable, easily available product for care and maintenance of cuticles. If you have very stubborn and hard cuticles or very bad nails and hands that have not been cared for, a professional manicure once or twice would be needed. Later on, this product can help for regular maintenance. It is not a miraculous product, but the very fact that it is non greasy makes it user friendly treatment even for the day time use. I would advice doing 2 nails at a time because the product tends to dry by the time I reach the last finger, making it difficult to push back the cuticles.

A good product, but I am still looking for a better one. Butter London Melt Away Cuticle Eliminator is the one I have picked recently and is currently in testing stage.

Any Favorites for cuticle care?
