EVE LOM Gel Balm Cleanser

If you love the Classic Eve Lom Cleanser but reserved it to use on weekends only due to its time consuming nature, the newest release by Eve Lom in form of Gel Balm cleanser is a quick, easy option. Reviewing today this new gem #complimentaryfromEveLom

A soothing gel-to-balm formula that gently removes makeup and impurities without stripping skin’s moisture.

This hybrid formula gently and thoroughly removes all traces of makeup and other impurities with a signature essential oil blend of clove (to reduce blemishes), eucalyptus (fights toxins)s, hops (Tones), and chamomile oil (Soothes). Fortified with a high dose of shea butter and grapeseed oil for their intensive moisturizing benefits
Eve Lom's Gel Balm Cleanser leaves skin feeling soothed and nourished. An enzyme blend assists with gently cleansing skin, while cold-pressed argan oil enhances the skin’s condition and protects from redness.

Highlighted Ingredients
-Shea Butter: Seals in moisture for long-lasting hydration.
-Grapeseed Oil: Moisturizes and quickly absorbs into the skin.
-Plant-derived Lecithin: Conditions the skin and supports the skin's barrier function.
-Unique Enzyme Blend: Gently and effectively dissolves makeup and impurities without stripping skin’s moisture.
-Botanical Spent Grain Wax, Argan & Olive Oil – instantly soothes and nourishes the complexion for flawless skin

Ingredient Callouts: Free of sulfates, parabens, mineral oil and phthalates.

Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil is 6th ingredient in the complete ingredient list on the label and I know many who dislike the presence of this in their skincare. Vegetable Oil and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil slow the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin's surface. I personally don't have any issue with this oil but it is moderately comedogenic and can understand why some people don't appreciate it in their skincare. It is safe in less quantity though.

Color, Texture and Consistency
Creamy pale white, opaque gel with slight glossy sheen. It is neither too thick nor too runny. It is a soft liquid balm.

Scent
It has a very distinct spicy herbal scent to it. Exactly similar to the original Eve Lom Balm cleanser.  As per the description on website, the cleanser has a blend of clove, eucalyptus, hops and chamomile oils and this blend is probably responsible for the unique spicy aroma that the cleanser has. I love this scent, a lot actually. It is definitely an intense and noticeable fragrance. I somehow was very fond of this particular aroma even when I used the original balm cleanser the first few years back.

Application
I have used this both as first and second cleanse and in two different ways. As per the instructions this particular cleanser has to be used on wet face which is usually different from other oil based cleansers that I have used in the past, where the cleanser has to be massaged on dry face and then use water. Once in contact with water the oil emulsifies into milky liquid, that has to be rinsed off.
I prefer using a generous pump of this on dry skin, where it turns into oil first and then massage it gently to remove all the traces of makeup. Then rinse it off clean with warm water. Luckily, it is formulated in a way that there is absolutely no need of cloth to remove the product, like it was mandatory with the original cleanser.

Feel and Effect on the skin
The cleanser lifts up almost all the traces of makeup, including waterproof mascara, but I always use eye makeup remover or micellar cleansing water on eyes, so even if I don't go too close near the eyes, it works for me. The skin feels soft and smooth and not at all drying. The cleanser does not leave any residue or film after cleansing, but I do feel like the skin has a layer of thin moisturizer. It did not break me out nor clogged my pores.

Packaging
The packaging for a cleanser cannot get any more luxurious. It comes well packaged in a chic, white sturdy plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. There is a cap to avoid the cleanser from accidentally spilling on-the-go. Very travel friendly container. Just the gold font on white bottle is a shower delight and Instagram dream!

Final thoughts
This can be used both as first or second cleanser but I prefer it as a first cleanser, because it literally melts into my dry skin and is good enough to remove my makeup, which usually is not too heavy to begin with but substantial enough that it needs an oil based cleanser. If you can handle the strong, unique spicy clove scent, this is a very good cleanser. It soothes the skin and the good oils nourish it too. I love it!
