Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 (Review)

An innovative three-in-one mist that sets makeup, helps control oil and shine, and refreshes your defense against photo aging UV rays with an uplifting scent of rosemary and mint.

The secret to totally sun-safe skin is reapplying your UV defense at least every two hours when in direct sunlight. Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 is the best way to reapply UV protection throughout the day without disturbing your makeup. The formula includes a unique makeup setting ingredient that acts by creating a sheer shield, which dries quickly.

Formulated WITHOUT: - Parabens - Sulfates
This product is clinically tested, noncomedogenic, non-irritating, and allergen-free. It is formulated without synthetic fragrance and oxybenzone.

I must say I was super impressed when the SA at Sephora told me good things about this product. Also the fact that it is a make up setting spray which is practically colorless and has SPF 50 made me buy this product in full size almost instantly, without waiting for any coupon or Ebates.

Color: Colorless. Clear

Texture and Consistency: Thin, watery and very light weight. It is non sticky to touch, but once on face, it is a different story.

Scent: It has a weird, not so pleasant scent with hint of alcohol

Application: As per the instruction, the product is to be shaken well and then to be applied after makeup as a setting spray. I did just the same. I maintained a distance of 8-10 inches and tried to spray product as evenly and thinly as possible. It is pretty obvious that one has to close eyes and avoid the product to get in.

Feel and Effect on Skin: Firstly it feels slightly cool on face. It did not leave any burning or itchy sensation on my face nor did it leave any redness. It did not absorb any oil nor gave any matte effect. On the contrary, the face appeared sticky and greasy. There was a residue and it really looked tacky. Also, the packaging of the product is not very good, making it practically impossible to get an even and thin application.

As far as makeup setting is concerned, I did not try it over full face of makeup, but whatever little and light makeup I had applied, looked very greasy and messy.

Packaging: This part of the product was disappointing. The packaging though sleek and decent, is not very consistent in performance. The nozzle is supposed to dispense mist of product, but sometimes it just squirts and sprays stream of sunscreen. This just ruins the makeup. Also the pump dispenses uneven amount of product. This leads to blotchy, spotty patches on face after it dries. This being a makeup setting spray, it is important that the dispenser be super fine and dispense only 'mist'.

Verdict: The concept is good, but the packaging is horrible. If the dispenser and nozzle were better, it would had been more enjoyable to use this product on face. Due to poor dispensing, more product gets deposited on some places, leaving a spotty, patchy mark after drying. Not very flattering. It did not give matte finish to face either. I did like it initially for first couple of uses when the nozzle was working fine, but later on it became a messy affair. I did not enjoy this one on my face, but I did use it up on my arms and back, like normal sunscreen spray, so as to avoid wasting the product.

Thumbs down!
