Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm (review)

A smoothing, plumping lip balm with SPF 10.

Crème de Rose is a refined lip balm that soothes, re-plumps, hydrates, and protects the lips with SPF 10.This nourishing lip balm comes in one universal petal pink shade and features a delicate rose scent. It is enriched with a rare and precious Damask Rose essential oil extract, an anti-aging complex, energizing vitamins A and E, and shea butter for a long-lasting regenerating and smoothing anti-wrinkle effect. It leaves the lips optimally soothed, moisturized and nourished. Soft and beautifully plump, the lips are more radiant than ever!

I picked this product because it looked very pretty on Instagram pictures. I have seen this product used as props in many photos due to its cute, slightly vintage but classy and chic white packaging.
I always thought it was just another over priced, luxury lip balm and to some extent this is true. It performs the same task of moisturizing and treating chapped lips. It is the scent, the feel and over all experience of using the product that makes it luxurious and enjoyable.

Color: Pale pink, but is clear on application. There is no tint and it does not stains the lips.

Texture and Consistency: It is a thick, creamy, petroleum jelly kind of consistency. Non sticky, not heavy on lips and not shiny or glossy.

Scent: Smells of roses. The smell does not lingers on for long though. I love rose scent and so I find it pleasant. I know many who just are allergic to scents, especially rose or sandalwood. It reminds me a lot of Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve, but the later is very glossy and oily.

Application: I apply it just once or twice a day. There is a good reason for this and I will get into that shortly. I use my fingers to apply it and when the product was new, I had to actually dig my finger to scoop out the product.

Feel and Effect on Lips: I apply a thin layer. It spreads easily and does not feel thick or heavy at all. There is no stickiness like the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask nor it is stiff and dry like Marc Jacobs Beauty Lip Lock Moisture Balm. There is no stinging, tingling, cooling or any of those weird sensation that is usually seen when a product claims to give 'plumping' effect.
The lips feel instantly hydrated and moisturized. It makes them appear smooth and soft. Now, as per the claims, it says that this lip balm is a plumping one. I have fairly full lips and I did notice plump lips. I guess intense hydration made it appear more full. This effect lasted for few minutes only.

Packaging: This is the cutest part. The container is made of plastic that mimics marble or white stone. It is heavy and not at all flimsy. The cap is screw top. It is not the most sanitary method of storing and using a lip balm, but as I use it at home and not carry around in my purse, using fingers for application does not bothers me. Looks very vintage Chic. I prefer this packaging to Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, where the product breaks, melts and becomes a gooey mess.

Verdict: This is a high priced lip balm, but not insanely priced (hello! By Terry). If you are looking for some intense plumping action, this is not the right product. Also when this was new to me, I used it probably every hour or two and I noticed it made my lips super dry, flaky and they started to peel. When I limited my usage, it worked beautifully and made my lips soft, smooth and hydrated. So moderation is the key. Usually lip products with SPF don't work for me, with exception of Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. I have no idea how this dude works! but it works! and it is excellent.

A good, luxury product but not something unique, 'must have' kind.
