Parabens - Sulfates - Synthetic Fragrances - Synthetic Dyes - Petrochemicals - Phthalates - GMOs - Triclosan

This is one of those in-between skin care products that I had been using for sometime now. If you have been reading Dazzle 'n' Sparkle, you probably know I am a little more than obsessed with skincare. An ardent fan of Beauty Oils and Serums, I stick to my Holy Grail Oils for moisturizing and hydrating my skin. As much as I enjoy oils, I avoid using it under my makeup.

A good face moisturizer forms a good base to work with all the colors and I rather than applying something that is 'just a moisturizer', I prefer it to have some 'goodness'. It can be anything that would help with hyper-pigmentation, skin firming, improving skin texture and so on. In this particular case, the moisturizer claims to have Anti- aging properties. The Origins Starting Over is an Age- Erasing Moisturizer with Mimosa (a tree native to Brazil and the extract of Mimosa Tree Bark helps in producing more collagen by stimulating skin cells)

I love it when the product contains such impressive and cool sounding ingredients. ORIGINS is one such brand that actually uses many of these Herbal and Natural ingredients and they have description of these on their website.

Color: Pale Off white, NOT white. (It doesn't matters anyways)

Texture: Soft, thick cream, not very dense but not super fluffy either.

Scent: A pleasant herbal scent. It smells OK.

Usage and Application: I apply it twice during the day. Once after shower in the morning on clean face and once in the evening around 6-7 hours later after I wash my face. Usually, I apply a serum before applying any moisturizer, but I had to test and review this product on its own for a month. So I applied it on bare face. I just dot about 7-8 dots on my face and using circular motions, spread it all over.

Feel on Skin: It is not the lightest cream, but it is not super thick and greasy either. The texture is thick, but not the feel on skin. On initial application it felt tacky for few minutes, but later it set well. As far as absorption is concerned, I felt it took some time to sink in, but some of it did just 'sit' on top. The skin felt moisturized, but  not super hydrated or buttery soft. After few hours, my face did appear little greasy.

Effect on Skin: The product claims to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkle. I personally don't have any wrinkles and my pores are pretty small too. Thankfully, I never had the enlarged pore issue. By end of 4 weeks, I did not notice any major disappearance of fine lines.(That kind of silky matte effect can be achieved by using a silicone based primer)The skin feels hydrated and some of the dry patches that keep coming on and off on my face were gone. The cream did not clog the pores and moisturized well. It is a moisturizer and for my dry skin a little grease is welcome. It did not break me out nor there were any ugly bumps.

Issues with the Product: I have only two issues with this product. One is the lack of SPF, as I plan to use it during the day and secondly it stings my eyes!! If I accidently rub my eye, while this cream is on my face, my eyes sting! I have always had this issue with most of the Origins products I have used in the past.

Packaging: A glass jar with screw top cap. Not the most hygienic container, but for a cream of this consistency a soft squeeze tube or a jars are the best options.

My thoughts and Verdict: This is not my absolute favorite. It is a good product, but I would prefer something more light weight like serum, that would provide hydration and moisturize too. I enjoy using serum and oils on my face, which are light weight. Oils are greasy, but still light weight and less dense. It is a good moisturizer for combination to dry skin, but I don't think it is best for oily skin.

Have you tried this Product? Any favorite moisturizer?

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

A 100 percent pure organic maracuja oil.

This undiluted organic and moisturizing maracuja oil quickly absorbs for firmer, brighter, smoother skin. Pure maracuja oil is rich in vitamin C, so skin appears instantly brighter and more radiant.

The oil is also a source of essential fatty acids (EFAs), a requirement for healthy skin cells that the body cannot produce on its own. EFA deficiency can result in the breakdown of essential skin cells which causes skin to appear dry and aged. By supplementing skin with pure maracuja oil, you are infusing life back into dull skin and replenishing EFAs to rapidly rebuild and repair.

This potent antiaging elixir that has anti-inflammatory benefits promotes active skin recovery and delivers maximum hydration without any greasy or filmy feel.

Formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

I am such a Beauty Oil junkie!! It is a must in my book of skincare. No matter what, I just feed my skin with these oils and surprisingly enough, my skin drinks up these oils like crazy.

I have combination to dry skin, leaning more towards the dry end. Also, the crazy weather of Chicago makes it worse in winters. Josie Maran Argan Oil has been my holy grail for quite sometime now and I absolutely love it.

I just wanted to try some other oils and luckily enough the beauty sets I picked recently from Sephora had tons of them to try.

Color: Colorless

Texture: Light weight, slightly greasy (obviously, its oil)

Scent: It has no artificial scent added. A natural, faint, nutty scent of oil is all I can notice. It is not over powering or rancid. Totally bearable.

Usage: Twice daily in the morning and evening for 2 weeks. Later only once a day till I ran out of the two mini bottles I had.

Application: I apply just about 4-5 drops on clean face, massaging them lightly in circular motion on face and using the leftovers on the neck.

Feel on skin: The oil gets absorbed pretty quickly, leaving behind slight sheen of the oil. The oil just does not 'sits' on the skin. It is not greasy like thick vegetable oil. It moisturizes wonderfully. The skin feels soft and nourished.

This oil did not clog pores or broke me out. There were absolutely no bumps. Usually when an oil does not works for me, I get these bumps, never painful, but yet weird looking.

Packaging: The bottle looks pretty. The color is purple and cap has this wooden look with a gold button, that actually is the dropper. The bottle I have is exact miniature replica of the full size one. As much as I love the cuteness, I find the dropper style bit impractical. I mean, I would prefer a regular, simple dropper. This kind of button style droppers become difficult to use if the hands are slippery.

Verdict: I am no new to using oils. So the initial benefits of soft, smooth, nourished as well as healthy looking youthful skin that I get after using this oil is not a surprise. Infact, the oil is 100% pure Maracuja oil and there is no addition of any essential oils. As a result, the benefits that usually are due to essential oils like getting rid of hyper pigmented marks that I have on my skin or the uneven skintone that is also a major issue for me is not taken care of by using this. All the dry patches on skin are gone and the skin definitely glows and shines.

Is this better over Josie Maran Pure Argan Oil?

I think they both worked pretty similar for me. Very initially when I had started with Josie Maran Argan Oil, I had my share of skin issues and the Argan Oil took good care of it. When I stared with Maracuja Oil, I must admit my skin was in pretty good shape. I would not rely completely only on oils for my skincare programe. Serums and Sunscreens are must, but oils are indispensible.

You can try the mini size of Tarte Marcuja Oil  here or even Tarte Bright by Night Skincare Discovery set would be a great way to try two lovely products.

Benefit - Lollitint (Review/Swatches)

A smudge-proof lip and cheek stain in a candy-orchid tint. This lasting lip and cheek tint adds a beautiful flush of pink to lips and cheeks with true staying power. Smudge-proof and smooch-proof, color lasts day to night.

'Tints' have been my go-to product for 'no make up' make up day. Benefit Posietint is my absolute favorite. It is a poppy pink tint and such a wondeful spring color. The newest addition in tint family is Lollitint.

Benefit Lollitint Lip and Cheek Stain

Color: Candy-Orchid. This is a lovely pinkish lilac blush, with blue undertones. It is a cool toned blush and is very unique!

Texture and Consistency: It is a liquid blush, which is slightly thick and has a gel like consistency. It is NOT a gel, but not watery either like Benetint. It is very opaque.

Application on Cheeks: Unlike Benefit Posietint, this was a bit tricky to apply. The best tool I personally found were my fingers. Dab a dot and blend quickly. Very very quickly. This dries fairly fast, making it impossible to blend once dry and so it is better to work on one cheek at a time. None of my blush brush did a good job of blending, but my fingers worked well. The color is buildable and can be used to get more intensity if needed. The application was easy on my bare skin, that just had lotion or skin cream on it.

Application on Lips: Tints or Stains never worked for me on my lips. Lollitint did stain well, but stained uneven. It made my lips very dry and looked super unnatural. It sinked in the fine lines too. One needs to have really good and evenly moisturized lips to use this stain.

This will stain the finger badly, if finger is your tool of choice.

Color pay off and Staying Power: The color pay off is good. It stains really well. The color is buildable as well. It is a cool toned blush, with blue undertones, but it looks lovely and very flattering on my skintone that has heavy yellow undertones. It shows up nicely and stays pretty well for good eight hours! There is absolutely no shimmer or sparkles. The finish is satiny and the end result is dewy.

Packaging: Very cute and very Pink! The metallic looking container is pretty and so are the flowers. The applicator is like every other Benefit tint, just like nail polish brush. It comes with a small leaflet, where application procedure is shown. Pretty neat! This is a good bottle to travel with, because its leak proof and spill proof. Also, the brush comes in handy.

Swatch of Benefit Lollitint Lip and Cheek Stain

Verdict: I like the product, especially for the unique color. I am always amazed at the fact that blushes with Blue undertones, that specifically have lilac, lavender or Purple hues looks exceptionally good on me. NARS Sin happens to be my all time favorite. If I have to choose only one Benefit tint, I would go with Posietint. I find Posietint more forgiving and easy to use. Lollitint dries very quickly and if the application is messed up, it would leave blotchy, patchy and unevenly stained cheeks. Not very flattering. A good product to have if art of application is mastered.

Do you love stains and multi-tasking products? Have tried this one?

Beauty Cravings

1/2/3/4/5/6

There is always a list ready. I went to check few collections and new products last Sunday. I was amazed at the number of awesome products I saw. The beauty products have just become so refined and every single brand comes up with something new everyday. Obviously, there are loads to try, but somethings that I am craving right now.

1. HOURGLASS Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick: At a high price tag of $30 per piece, these lipsticks had cool packaging and unique squarish tip. The colors were just awesome and the texture was mind blowing. These have been in market for quite sometime now, but I have never tried them. I badly want one and I don't see Sephora Friends and family sale coming anytime soon.

2. CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick L’Adoree (45)Mauve from the Chanel Notes de Printemps Collection for Spring 2014. Buying Chanel Makeup or for that matter any of these very high end makeup is a very planned project for me. I just don't buy every single item released in every single collection. Also, I don't buy products from these brands 'just to try'.I buy only if I am very sure I am going to love them and use them. At $35.00 a pop, this Lipstick from Chanel is one of their newest, limited edition color for Spring. Looks more like a Fall color. My experience with Chanel Lipstick in the past has been not so awesome. I find them over-hyped product. But the color MAUVE... Hello!!! It is so me!!

3. Bobbi Brown 'Nectar' Shimmer Brick Compact: I was passing by the Bobbi Brown Counter at Nordstrom and I saw this shimmer brick at their front display. It looked pretty and I swatched it, totally not knowing its name or collection it belongs. The makeup artist dusted a bit on my cheeks and if I may say so, I looked Stunning!!! I own 2 shimmer bricks and they are my least used products these days. After the arrival of more finely milled highlighters, I find these way too shimmery and sparkly. "Nectar" made me look glamorous and even though the color reminded me of NARS Torrid Blush, I am badly craving this. At $42 a piece, I need to make a sensible decision.

4. CHANEL LE BLUSH CRÈME DE CHANEL: Stunning colors, lovely texture and cute compact. Craving for this is inevitable. The only difficult task is choosing the perfect one...or two...maybe three...

5. CHANEL NOTES DE PRINTEMPS LE VERNIS NAIL COLOUR: I want the color Charivari. This color too looks more like a Fall color. It is a Spring release.

6. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush: One is not enough! I recently picked this product in the color Luminous Flush. You can read my review and see the swatches here. Now, I want another Color in Radiant Magenta. This is comparatively sparkly than the one I own, but the color is absolutely gorgeous. I hope to pick this sooner or later.

Origins - Dr Weil Conditioning Lip Balm with Turmeric

Last week there was a lip emergency. No, seriously! there was. My junior aka my 8 years old son decided to 'pull' the dry bits of his lips and it started to bleed. Bleed here in the mall. My constant efforts to make him put on lip balm goes waste, but this time around the situation was different. The kid was in pain and he could see the look in my eyes that said "I told you so". He agreed to apply.

Unfortunately, the only lip balms I had in my bag were tinted ones (sugar lip balm) and the dude was ready to bear the pain, but NOT apply Lipstick. Case Closed.

I picked this Origins Lip balm from the nearest visible store Macy's. It was not a conscious decision to pick from Origins, but this was the nearest available counter and I like Origins as a brand. I had two options. Lip Remedy Soothing lip Saver and Dr. Andrew Weil Conditioning Lip Balm with Turmeric.

I chose the later one. Turmeric is a healer and Dr. Andrew Weil is a name that can be trusted.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins: Conditioning Lip Balm with Turmeric:

Color: Pale Yellow and NO, it does NOT stains the lips.

Texture: Thick, waxy and dry

Scent: Natural scent or rather no scent. No artificial perfume scent nor any weird herbal scent.

Application: Due to its dry texture, application is bit difficult. It does not glides on smoothly and tugs the lips. Once it warms up a little due to natural body heat, then there is no problem. One or two swipe is enough to get a decent film.

Feel on Lips: Light application (two or three swipes) moisturizes the lips and does not feel heavy at all, but more than that it does feel uncomfortable n heavy, like a thick layer of wax.

Effect: The lip balm does a good job of healing. It worked well for my kid's severely chapped lips. He applied it for 3-4 days. Later, I started using it. It made my lips soft, but it is not the most emollient and soft lip balm. It did not make my lips buttery soft, but it just protected the lips from further drying or peeling.

Packaging: It comes in a flat, skinny, oblong shaped tube, which is kind of cute and very practical for application.

Verdict: It is not one of my favorite lip balm, but it did work very well for my kid. So I can say it is a healer, something that I personally use a bed time, over night lip treatment. It has no SPF, so no sun protection here. It is a good thing for me, because lip balms with SPF peels my lips. I wish it had a better texture. Had it been soft and smooth, the application would had been more easy and user friendly. Origins could have done better.

Have you tried this balm? Which is your favorite, holy grail lip treatment?

Beauty Buys - Benefit, Urban Decay, Marc Jacobs

'BEAUTY BUYS' is just another term coined for the infamous 'HAUL'. Its the list of things I buy, try and the ones you will hear me 'yak', 'blab', 'review' about in next few posts!!! Call this a 'Preview'..

I had been wanting a few of the above things, since long time.

Lollitint by Benefit is the only product that I have picked out of curiosity. I had already used mini samples of Posietint and I decided to pick Posietint (full size) and I as I type this I realize I forgot to click a picture. Anyways, I liked the color of Lollitint and I decided to pick this too.

OPI Nail Polish in Wonderous Star: I have no idea when this color came or which collection it belongs. I am very poor when t comes to follow Nail polish releases. This was just lying some other color section at Ulta. It looked very different from anything I have and I must say it is Unique, but not so flattering on me.

Butter London Nail polish in Marrow. Probably everyone has this. This color is from their permanent line and I am a sucker for Purples. They just look good on my nails.

Too faced Lipstick in Pink Chocolate: I love the formula of Too faced La Creme lipsticks and I already have Cinnamon Kiss and Sweet Maple. Love them!!! You can read the reviews here and see the swatches here. This is just a new color I wanted to try. As always it was difficult for me to come out of my comfort zone and try very different shades. This color is pretty much in the same color family as I have tried before. I know its not very exciting, but I will end up using it often.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in color Rapture: My very first Urban Decay Lipsticks. The 24/7 Eyeliners from the brand are my holy grail everyday used and loved products. I am positive that the lipstick won't disappoint either. The color is lovely. It is a dusty rose color (duh!! so mee!!) but with a hint of Purple. Looks lovely. To be tried and tested.

Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer: My very first again from this brand. My wishlist was completely different. I wanted Baby Jane and Petra, but I actually needed a Silver nail Polish for certain function and this one fit the bill. Stone Jungle is a metallic silver. Simple!

Formula X for Sephora: Sephora by OPI is gone and now the shelves had these. Never tried any color from them. My picks were purples and lavenders. Dramatic and Bonded 2U. This brand had lovely selection of Nude shades and I really hope the formula is good. I am eyeing a few nudes for Spring and Summer. So this better work.

These are a few products I will be reviewing and swatching in upcoming posts. There are many amazing blushes in market right now, that I am dying to try. But I am sticking to buying things that I can afford and will be using. A strict NO to insanely expensive stuff, just for blogging.

Disclaimer: All the above products are purchased by me, but the post does contains Affiliate links.
